What’s passionate, curious, hard-working and will leave you tickled pink with pleasure? Why, your office design firm, of course. But only if they have the perfect triangle…
One of the joys of being in the commercial office fit out biz is having opportunities to meet interesting, successful people just like you, and becoming intimately involved in your lives.
And seeing as though we’re going to be taking over your office for several weeks, the chances are, you’ll become intimately involved in our lives, too! Which makes it really important that you like us and trust us to do a good job for you.
There is nothing as rewarding as having the perfect office design firm at your side to guide you through the inevitable ups and downs of a major refit. And what separates a great contractor from a merely good one is…..a triangle.
Yes, you read that right. A triangle, like a slab of Toblerone or a hastily-drawn shark fin.
Confused? Then read on…
The Office Fit Out Triangle
Over the course of an office fit out, you’ll meet lots of people from acoustic engineers and planning supervisors to carpenters and furniture specialists. All of these people have important jobs to do.
But for most commercial office fit out companies, there are three people who have the most important jobs of all, because they are ultimately responsible for the success and failure of the project. They are:
Looks good right? In this triangle, you have three complementary skill sets working in perfect synchronicity to make your project pop.
No, wait. Hang on a minute.
What’s the sales manager doing in there? Is he an accredited and award-winning designer? Does she know how to take a workplace apart and put it back together again?
Well…. perhaps. But it’s unlikely.
If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you’ll know that we’re not big fans of letting a sales team do our dirty work for us. We’ve always believed that the best way to win your business is not to ‘sell’ our company, but to establish meaningful relationships with our lovely clients. Which means that our golden triangle looks a little more like this:
Spot the difference? Instead of a commissioned sales manager whose only job is to win the contract, you get our most senior head honcho on every single project. It’s usually our MD, David, but sometimes it’s David plus another board member so you get two big cheeses for the price of one. Of course, that would turn the triangle into a rectangle or maybe a parallelogram which is far too much geometry for one day.
And really, what you want to know is…
Why Is the CCWS Triangle Different?
Conventional working practices don’t normally put designers and PMs and big-cheese board directors in the same kind of working proximity that we do. It isn’t the cheapest way of doing things.
So why do we work this way?
Simple: It makes things easier for you. Here are some of the reasons:
1. Instead of looking at each role in the triangle as part-work (“we’ve won the contract, now you create a layout, then Fred will get the plumbers in”), we make sure you get the same people all the way through your project, from the moment you get in touch to the ‘big reveal’ when we hand over the keys to your finished office (our favourite bit!). This means that the left hand always knows what the right hand is doing, and you only have one number to call if you need anything.
2. The people you meet at the interview stage are the same people you will see on site day in, day out, for the entire duration of your project. We reckon there’s something really creepy about hiring a firm because you like the people, then watching those people disappear like ghosts. If you hire us because you like us, you’ll keep on liking us all the way through to the end of the fit out….because we’re the same people!
3. Having a big cheese on board creates real consistency and makes your project smarter, smoother and more cost-effective. It’s a bit like putting your project on cruise control, where we do all the planning, chasing, tracking and frantic midnight phone calls for you. It’s the all-in-one triangle that takes care of everything, so you can focus on other important stuff – like where you’re going to keep your puppy-shaped post-it notes.
David, the head honcho, doing the whole cruise control thing – right down to shopping for plants.
Of course, there is one person that we haven’t mentioned yet and that’s you, our wonderful client. A stellar new office is a shared destination, and we reckon you deserve to have three friendly and experienced people by your side who will enjoy the ride with you, not just pop along when they need you to sign something. Because it’s way more fun in a threesome than doing it on your own.
Wait.
Oh, you know what we mean…
